That’s according to Spanish news outlet Diario Gol who say the Argentine superstar has demanded Sergi Roberto stays at the Nou Camp.
Both Dortmund and the Reds have been digging their heels in over mega-money transfer for their star players.
However, Diario Gol reckon both clubs have asked Barca to include Roberto in any prospective deals.
Messi’s insistence that Roberto remains in Catalonia could cause chaos as Barca look to get transfers over the line.
Barca lost Neymar to Paris St-Germain for a world-record £199m fee earlier this summer and they are in the hunt for star talent to replace him.
And Messi – who has a lot of influence in Barcelona’s corridors of power – is desperate for Roberto to stay put.
The 25-year-old has a tantalising £37.5m release clause which has helped fuel speculation about his future.
Roberto bagged a goal in Barca’s 2-0 triumph over Real Betis on Sunday night.
But he didn’t feature against Real Madrid in the Super Copa first-leg.
Roberto can be deployed in midfield, at full-back or as a winger.
And Diario Gol say Messi views him as a key creative outlet.
Roberto played primarily at right-back last term and acquitted himself well.
However, the Spain international prefers to play in a central attacking role.
Since making his debut in 2010, he’s struggled to establish himself as a Barcelona regular.
Roberto has racked up 96 appearances for the club, scoring one goal.
